Bronson has changed quite a bit in the last few weeks.  He finally rolls over! And he has two new teeth coming in on the bottom row.  It is crazy to think he is almost eight months old.  We love him.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar-Preschool

I have been trying to do about an hour of preschool each day with Bradford and Stella.  I have decided to do a book theme each week.  Recently, we spent the week with The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  The kids had a lot of fun with it.  Brad took his linking shapes and made a caterpillar.
The caterpillar went to work eating all our toy food.  Bradford has really missed center time at preschool.  He tries to recreate it here at home.
Stella and I worked on color identification as we made a butterfly out of rainbow mosaic tiles.
I had the kids take turns putting on a sock caterpillar puppet.  They ate through the felt food as I read the story.  I found this idea online, and I thought it was really fun.
Another idea I found online.  The kids loved opening the caterpillar's mouth to put in the food.  I also printed off a lot of copies of the fruit to work on patterns, numbers, etc.
 Balloon prints.
Another online idea: leaf prints and toe prints.  I painted their toes to print the caterpillars.  The kids liked this activity.  I also had some songs I used to work on color identification, days of the week, and counting-all things addressed in the book.  We had a fun time.

Denver Zoo and Aquarium: June 2nd

We decided to take a family trip to the Denver Zoo and Denver Aquarium on Bradford's actual birthday.  We figured we should get in a visit before we move.  Bradford got to see some pretty neat things.  I think he realized that he had had a pretty incredible birthday.  When we got home from Denver, he asked me if he looked any bigger.  He said he thought he would just get bigger and look bigger on the day of his birthday, and he wasn't sure that he actually did.  I told him that while he probably didn't look any bigger than the day before, he had definitely grown taller over the last couple of months.  He was a little disappointed and confused.  I didn't realize he was counting on seeing a marked difference in himself on the day of his birthday.  Above and below, cheetahs.

I couldn't get over how massive some of the animals were.

Bradford got this Batman shirt from Hannah and Ross.  A lot of his friends from preschool had a shirt like it, and a lot of them had Batman themed birthday parties throughout the year.  He doesn't even really know what Batman is, but he sure wanted the shirt.  Thanks Ross and Hannah!

The gorillas were neat to watch.

This gorilla turned his back on me right when I tried to snap a picture.  Before he turned, he looked me right in the eyes, and I could tell he wasn't happy with me for wanting to take a picture.  It reminded me a lot of Todd, actually :)

 The hippos were huge.
We got to see this elephant up close.  It was neat to seem him feel around for apple slices with his trunk.  He picked up the slices and popped them in his mouth.
Diana was a huge help with the always.  Thanks Diana.

Brad was amazed by the giraffes.  He knew they were tall, but I don't think he really got it until he saw them up close.

The zebras were really neat to see.

After a picnic lunch, we went to the Denver Aquarium.  It was really impressive.
We got to see all sorts of ocean life swim up and over us and all around us.  This sting ray was huge!

The displays were so tropical and beautiful.

 A beautiful macaw.
 Upside down jelly fish. Tricky.
The kids got to touch the sea stars.

The biggest surprise: Tigers!  The tigers at the zoo were really far away and sleeping, so we were happy we got to see these tigers from the rain forest.  It is hard to believe these are the smallest species of tiger.

 Clown fish and sea anemones.

Clear jellyfish.  There were also glow in the dark jellyfish.  Anne's camera battery died before I could take any more pictures, but the kids also got to see an octopus, and they got to pet the stingrays.  It was really neat.  We had such an awesome day, and we were exhausted by the end of it.  Thanks for the great weekend everyone.
