Dixie Round-up Rodeo

I haven't been to the Dixie Round-up Rodeo since I graduated from high school.  It was one of my favorite traditions when I was growing up as a kid.  It's a really well run and fun rodeo.  It was so fun to hang out with cousins and family at the event.  It brought back a lot of great memories, and my kids loved watching the rodeo, eating treats, and seeing family.

Bronson stayed awake the whole time.  We didn't get home to Hurricane until a little after 11 pm; there was a motorcycle show at the end of the rodeo where two motorcyclists went off jumps and did flips, etc.  It was really fun to see, but it made for a little later night than I expected.  Bronson is usually up by six, but he slept in until 9 am this morning.  I couldn't believe it.  Too much fun.

Garden

We have been enjoying food from our garden.  The kids help to weed and pick everything.  Lately, their prayers have included requests for more corn in the garden; it seems Phillip's love for corn has passed along to them.
The other day, Bronson was excited to get to help Phillip water our struggling raspberry starts.  He likes to think he's a big helper.

Preschool Girl

Stella started preschool today.  She was so excited to get dressed up in school clothes and wear her backpack.  She insisted on wearing it to Bradford's school when we dropped him off.  I figured I would let her since she won't ever actually take the backpack out of the house; I decided to start a little preschool from home.  I am going to teach Stella in addition to three little friends from church.  It will be an adventure, I'm sure.  I am interested to see if teaching preschool is something I would like to pursue.
Stella has been waiting for this day for a long time.
Our classroom set up so far.  I am going to tweak a few things.  The bouncy horse and shopping cart will be the first things to go :)  The kids had a hard time staying at the carpet when these alluring toys were out.
Cubbies and supplies.  We talked about the proper use of supplies and materials today.  Learning how to snap the marker lids back onto the marker was a lot more fun for the kids than I thought it would be.
We are going to spend September focusing on colors and shapes.  I am trying to decide how to best display the books I have for this theme in an accessible way.  I don't really want them on top of the book shelf because the kids can't reach them very well, and I would like to use the space for something else.  I'll have to see what I can come up with.
We did a lot of different activities today.  Stella enjoyed making name bracelets with colorful letter beads in addition to Fruit Loop necklaces.  I think Stella had a fun time.  I hope they will enjoy preschool and learn a lot.

Visit with Janet and Diana

Janet and Diana came for a visit last weekend.  We really enjoyed having them stay with us for a few days.  The night before they got here, Stella told me she was "so, so, so, so excited" for them to come.  We went on a hike to Kanarraville Falls.  It was really neat; my pictures don't do it justice.
Stella went down this mini rock slide.  She thought it was pretty great.

It was so nice to walk in the cool water as we hiked, and the really narrow canyons provided a ton of shade.

This rock slide looked pretty fun.  Phillip, Stella, and Janet went down this one.
Janet and Stella went down together.  They both went under all the way and came up sopping wet.
Thanks for coming Janet and Diana!
