Bradford won second place for the kindergarteners in his school's art contest. He built a 3D house, moving van, and fire pit. The house also had some furniture inside. He was very happy. He got a medal and certificate in a school assembly.
It looks a bit rough in this pic. It had been through a lot at this point.

Zion and Visitors

We had our good friend, Vicki, visit us a couple of weeks ago. Anne also came to visit last weekend. We were so happy to see them. We took them up to Zion. It was pretty and beautiful weather.

February Preschool-Building and Construction Theme

Building structures with toothpicks and marshmallows.  Some of the kids quickly learned that triangles were the best shape for these structures.  Some of them thought it was more enjoyable to just eat the marshmallows.
Construction theme and synthetic sand at the discovery table.
 Building structures with linking shapes.
I found a great resource online that had names and photos of famous structures around the world.  I printed them off and had the kids look at the pics for inspiration as they built with the Magformers and Magna-Tiles.

We also did a unit on bridges and tested the strength of various types of bridges.
One day, we had a contest to see who could build the tallest towers given four different building materials.  The kids had a hard time with this concept.  A lot of them just wanted to do their own thing.  Some of them are perfectionists, and they tore down their towers right before the time was up because they didn't like the way things were looking.
 Building with bristle blocks.

 Building with "O" rings.
My niece just moved to St. George with her family.  We have been very excited for her to come to our preschool.
Building with craft sticks and mini cups.
To finish up our building theme, we did an art project where the kids constructed their homes using colored foam and craft sticks.
Bradford had to join in on the fun.  He built the Leaning Tower of Pisa with these craft sticks and cups:)
